Pulling VS. Engaging
Put yourself into your posture rather than pulling, flinging or pushing yourself into them. We tend to use or arms to help us get deeper into our poses, for example getting a foot into the right place or to be able to twist deeper... and that’s fine! But by practicing getting as far as we can using our own strength and mobility without getting the arms and hands involved it is not only more effective, but also safer.
It’s more effective because the engagement trains not only our strength but our flexibility, leading to increased mobility in our bodies.
It’s safer because it means you activate the muscles that are responsible for this movement and with the muscles switched on your ligaments and tendons are protected.
